Innocent Kamali

District Project Director - Kayonza

Innocent Kamali is a public health leader with over 15 years of experience dedicated to advancing health equity and social justice in Rwanda. Currently serving as the District Program Director for PIH/IMB in Kayonza District, he oversees a comprehensive portfolio that integrates clinical, public health, and community-based interventions. With a background in nursing and a Master of Public Health, Kamali focuses on building resilient, rights-based systems that prioritize the most vulnerable populations.

Throughout his career, Kamali has contributed in disease eradication and service decentralization. He has pioneered hepatitis C micro-elimination strategies for refugee and rural communities, implemented innovative mobile treatment models, and led the integration of NCD services into primary health centers through the PEN-Plus model. Beyond direct program management, he is a strategic technical advisor who has shaped national policies regarding HIV, adolescent reproductive health, and gender-based violence. His leadership is defined by a systems-thinking approach that emphasizes local ownership, social medicine, and the fundamental right to healthcare.
