Dr. William Rutagengwa

District Program Director - Kirehe

Dr. William Rutagengwa is a Public Health Specialist and healthcare leader with more than a decade of experience managing integrated primary healthcare and clinical programs in Rwanda’s public sector. Currently serving as the District Program Director for PIH/IMB in Kirehe, he is responsible for overseeing the organization’s infrastructure, staff, and resources while managing the monitoring and evaluation of public health interventions. His role also involves technical leadership in program design and the supervision of medical students from the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) during their clinical clerkships.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Rutagengwa served as the Director General of Nyamata Level II Teaching Hospital from 2018 to 2023, and held similar leadership roles at Muhima and Kacyiru District Hospitals. During his tenure, he was instrumental in strengthening health systems, ensuring medical quality compliance, and implementing specialized programs in sexual and reproductive health. A passionate advocate for healthcare innovation, he has a proven track record of collaborating with government institutions, donors, and non-governmental actors to drive sustainable, transformative change within the Rwandan health landscape.
